Cement based treatment for roofs and similar structures --- PERMAKAR 3 treatment

Cleaning the surface; preparing the surfaces by acid etching; treating the surface with a two-layer plaster; the first layer shall be 5 mm thick with cement (slag), admixed with an octadecanoic acid based cementitious waterproofing compound (bulk density not  greater than 0.5 gm/cc, moisture content not greater than 2.0% and free fatty acid not greater than 0.2%), e.g., PERMAKAR 3, in the weight ratio of 50:3 for cement and waterproofing compound; finally providing a 12 mm thick cement-sand (1:4) plaster, enriched with polyester fibre, and curing the plastered surface; the treatment shall be impermeable under a waterhead of 20.0 metres.

Requirement : 0.60 kg/sqm for roofs and similarly exposed surfaces above ground, other than water retaining structures

Care shall be taken to

a) wet the surface

     thoroughly before the

     application of the      

     PERMAKAR 3- cement       

     plaster 

b) provide cover plaster

    before the PERMAKAR 3-

    cement plaster will develop

    cracks

Note  :  It will be observed that the item and specification in the Unified Standard Specifications & S.O.R., and the specifications in the Railway Board circular and in the Eastern Railway circular are essentially the same, except that the brand name of the waterproofing compound PERMAKAR 3 is explicitly mentioned in the specification of Eastern Railway circular.

PERMAKAR 3 satisfies the characteristics of the waterproofing compound, set in the Unified Standard Specifications, in the S.O.R. and in the circular of the Railway Board.
